Background Information

This database is a cumulative list comprising of pharmaceutical product coded with MDC for the purpose of identification. MDC contains 18 alphanumeric digits and grouped into five segments. The MDC will be in the following configurations:  7-3-3-3-2-3

  • 1st segment is anatomical therapeutic (ATC) system code (7 digits) 
  • 2nd segment contains salt code (3 digits)
  • 3rd segment refers to pharmaceutical dosage form code (3 digits)
  • 4th segment is concentration code (2 digits)
  • 5th segment is product/ brand name code (3 digits) 

Product information in the MDC database is retrieved from National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB).  All information is valid at the time of publication and will be updated regularly by Pharmacy Practice & Development Division and NPCB, and is subject to change without prior notice or obligation.
